A-Stack is home to African writers, big or small. Our community thrives on collaboration and creating visibility for African writers and readers. Transform into an A-Stacker by subscribing below.
Hey A-Stacker!
We are four weeks into the year, and we hope you will serve us with the same ambition and prose you did in 2024. How are we, you ask? We are excited to be back and look forward to seeing more African-written work on our timelines.
We do have a few changes in the house. Firstly, our team shrunk. It was a bittersweet moment for us because A-Stack was a 3-brain creation.
left to fill new spots that favoured her growth, and we remain excited to see what she does in these new spaces. Kaothar, if you are reading this, we wish you the best. Thank you for bringing so much light and great ideas to A-Stack.Unfortunately, that means you will no longer receive an A-Prompt from A-Stack.

In other news, we are bringing a twist to A-Mention! Last year, we were digging through our timeline to find your work, and it was fun. This year, we want to share nothing but your best work. And who better to judge your work than you? You will submit your best work to us, and we will pass it on to our audience. Think of it as your pitch to get more people to want to read your work.
There's more. Instead of cramping up recommendations in one post, we are giving you the spotlight. How does a mini-interview about your publication sound? We thought you would like that. In one post people will get to understand your why and get to read YOUR best work too. If we have given you a mention before, don't sweat it. We still want to learn more about your publication and read your best work yet. If you want in, here is the link:
But that's not all that we have up our sleeve this year. Africa is a continent rich in culture, and we want you to tell the story of your roots. Paint a picture of the beauty you grew up around, the food that gets your mouth watery and the communities that raised you. Poetry, personal essays, short fiction, or research-based entries, we want it ALL on A-Feature! We will be taking pitches from African writers subscribed to A-Stack. If you have a story, we have the pitch guide right here:
You may be wondering about the A-List. That legendary list lives on. We gave it a facelift, and it is easier to sift through. This list exists so you can find African writers to read and collaborate with (we hope to see this last bit happening in 2025). You can check out the list here. If you would like to be listed, fill out this form.
Our schedule will now look like this:
2nd Thursday of the month: A-Mention
4th Thursday of the month: A-Feature
That's all the good and bad news we had for you. We are excited to see your best pieces trickle in and read your pitches. Let's get writing!
